If you drive a car to your Kokomo apartment, you can be thankful to Elwood Haynes, who invented the first "horseless carriage" in 1894, and drove it down a road near US Hwy 31. This pretty town of over 45,000 people is home to many creative inventions including the first set of stainless steel silverware, the first transistor radio for an auto and canned tomato juice was first made available here.

There are plenty of destinations to find out more about the first car and

other "firsts," such as the Kokomo Automotive Museum and the Elwood Haynes Museum, but there are other fabulous places for the Kokomo apartment dweller to visit. The Greentown Glass Museum features incredible antique glass, the Indiana University Kokomo Art Gallery and the Seiberling Mansion, an incredible architectural wonder with beautiful stained glass throughout.

For the outdoorsy types, Highland Park is an 80 acre park with gorgeous towering trees, Kokomo Creek and a Vermont style covered bridge. Located in the heart of the city, it's a great play to walk or run, bike or play ball, and offers free Wednesday night concerts in the summer.
